Hepatitis Be Antibody
Hepatitis Be Antibody; HBeAb.The appearance of anti-HBe in patients who have previously been HBeAg positive indicates a reduced risk of infectivity. Failure of appearance implies disease activity and probable chronicity but patients with HBeAb may have chronic hepatitis. Chronic HBsAg carriers can be positive for either HBeAg or anti-HBe, but are less infectious when anti-HBe is present. HBe can persist for years, but usually disappears earlier than anti-HBs or anti-HBc. Anti-HBe has not been found as the sole serologic marker for hepatitis B infection. Test code # 006635.
Price: Call with Prescription
Hepatitis Be Antigen
Hepatitis Be Antigen; HBeAg. Differential diagnosis, staging, and prognosis of hepatitis B infection. HBeAg appears in acute B hepatitis with or shortly after HBsAg, when the patient is most infectious. HBeAg is found only in HBsAg-positive sera. During the HBeAg-positive state, usually three to six weeks, hepatitis B patients are at increased risk of transmitting the virus to their contacts, including babies born during this period. Exposure to serum or body fluid positive for HBeAg and HBsAg is associated with three to five times greater risk of infectivity than when HBsAg positivity occurs alone. Persistence of HBeAg is associated with chronic liver disease. Test code # 006619.

Both types are contagious and periodically cause small fever blisters (vesicles) that break to form open lesions. HSV-1 primarily causes blisters or "cold sores" around the oral cavity and mouth, while HSV-2 usually causes lesions around the genital area; however, either one can affect the oral or genital area. ***Please note that this test cannot distinguish between Herpes Type I and Herpes Type II. Rubella
Rubella; IgG. German Measles Antibodies. This test measures the presence of rubella antibodies in the blood. Rubella antibodies are produced in response to an infection by the rubella virus. There are two types of rubella antibodies: IgM and IgG. The first type to appear in the blood after exposure is the IgM rubella antibody. The level of this protein in the blood rises and peaks within about 7 to 10 days after infection and then tapers off over the next few weeks, except in an infected newborn, where it may be detected for several months to a year. The IgG rubella antibody takes a bit longer to appear than the IgM, but once it does, it stays in the bloodstream for life, providing protection against re-infection. Test code #006197.
